Egypt’s Minister of Labour Hassan Raddad and Japan’s Ambassador to Egypt Fumio Iwai discussed on Tuesday ways of boosting bilateral co-operation in employment, vocational training, investment and occupational safety and health.

The meeting, held at the Labour Ministry’s headquarters in the New Capital, also probed ways to exchange expertise, improve workplace safety, support a better working environment and strengthen the partnership between Egypt and Japan.

The two sides agreed to hold an expanded meeting with representatives of around 80 Japanese companies operating in Egypt and employing nearly 17,000 workers.

The meeting also addressed companies’ needs and concerns and explored new areas of co-operation with the Labour Ministry.

The minister and the Japanese envoy also discussed launching a practical vocational training-for-employment programme drawing on Japanese expertise.

Under the proposed programme, selected ministry training centres could provide training in occupations linked to Japanese industries operating in Egypt, in co-operation with Japanese companies.

The two sides agreed to enhance co-operation in occupational safety and health and workplace protection, drawing on Japanese experience to develop prevention and safety systems.

Minister Raddad highlighted Egypt’s efforts to improve services for investors, streamline procedures and enhance work-permit systems for foreign nationals to support investment and create a more flexible business environment.

For his part, Ambassador Iwai affirmed Japan’s commitment to expanding its longstanding partnership with Egypt across various fields.
