Ambassador Mahmoud Omar, Assistant Foreign Minister and Director of the Palestine Department, met with UN Humanitarian Coordinator for the Palestinian Territories Ramiz Al‑Akbarov and his deputy Susanna Tkalec in Gaza to review the humanitarian situation and ways to strengthen relief efforts.
Both sides stressed the UN’s vital role in improving conditions in Gaza and the need to begin early recovery efforts leading to reconstruction, to restore stability and living standards. They underlined the importance of the Palestinian Authority’s central role in developments on the ground, affirming the unity of Gaza and the West Bank.
The UN officials welcomed cooperation with Egypt’s committee in Gaza, noting the restoration of electricity to the “Freedom Camp” (Nitsarim), and praised Egypt’s coordination with international organisations in supporting Palestinian resilience.
Discussions highlighted the urgent need to increase humanitarian aid flows and mobilise donor contributions, while firmly rejecting any displacement of Palestinians from their land. The meeting also addressed recent Israeli measures in the West Bank and the escalating violence, with both sides calling for intensified international efforts to halt escalation and prevent further deterioration.
