During his visit to Japan, Education Minister Mohamed Abdel Latif met Yuko Mitsui, First Vice President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), to review ongoing cooperation and explore new initiatives in education.

Abdel Latif highlighted the rapid expansion of Egyptian‑Japanese schools, which will reach 102 in September, up from 69 last year and 52 two years ago. Mitsui praised Egypt’s efforts to maintain quality while expanding the model, stressing the importance of continuing this approach.

Talks also covered the new cooperation programme with Hiroshima University to train Egyptian teachers, set to begin in September. The minister explained that the year‑long scheme combines academic, practical and research components, delivered in Egypt by Hiroshima faculty, with ten specialised courses designed to embed Japanese teaching practices. Mitsui welcomed the initiative, describing it as vital for building teacher capacity.

The two sides discussed extending Japanese expertise beyond Egyptian‑Japanese schools to general education, and using Egypt’s experience as a model for Arab and African countries. Mitsui affirmed that Japan views the Egyptian‑Japanese partnership as a distinguished example of international educational cooperation.

The meeting also reviewed the supervisory framework, with 39 Japanese experts due to be deployed across Egyptian‑Japanese schools from September to support academic and administrative quality. Both sides agreed to maintain close coordination to strengthen the strategic partnership and broaden the impact of Japanese educational practices in Egypt and beyond.
