Minister of Industry Khaled Hashem met on Tuesday with Hakimuddin Ali, Regional President for the Middle East, Türkiye and Africa (META) at RHI Magnesita, and the company’s delegation to discuss plans for establishing an integrated refractory manufacturing facility in Egypt.

The meeting comes as part of the Ministry of Industry’s strategy to deepen heavy industries, localise complementary manufacturing and attract high-value industrial investments.

The two sides reviewed Vienna-based RHI Magnesita’s global operations and expansion plans, highlighting the company’s production of a comprehensive range of refractory products used in the steel, cement, aluminium, copper and glass industries. Discussions also covered the company’s recent acquisitions in Asia and its ongoing feasibility study for establishing a manufacturing base in Egypt.

Hashem said the proposed project aligns with the ministry’s updated Egypt Industry Strategy 2030, which identifies refractory manufacturing as a strategic industry due to its vital role in supporting the building materials, metallurgical and engineering sectors, as well as major national development projects.

He added that the investment would help meet growing domestic demand while strengthening Egypt’s position as a regional manufacturing and export hub.

For his part, Hakimuddin Ali said RHI Magnesita views Egypt as one of the region’s most attractive investment destinations, citing the availability of high-purity raw materials essential for refractory production.

He noted that the company operates across the entire value chain, from raw material extraction to finished products, while also providing recycling services and digital solutions for a wide range of industrial applications.
