Egypt welcomes the hosting of the regional office for the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), in light of the its request to inaugurate an office in the New Administrative Capital (NAC), affirmed Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli.
The move would contribute to further enhancing ties with the IFRC within the upcoming period, added Madbouli during his meeting with IFRC President Francesco Rocca, IFRC Regional Director Hossam el Sharkawi and Executive Director of the Egyptian Red Crescent (ERC) Ramy el-Nazer.
The meeting was held on the occasion of the IFRC’s participation in the first ever Middle East and North Africa Humanitarian Leadership Conference, which was held under the auspices of the Egyptian prime minister on February 28.
During the meeting, Madbouli hailed the IFRC’s efforts around the world and its strong partnership with the ERC.
He also extended thanks to the IFRC for its support to the ERC over the past period.
Egypt supports all the IFRC’s activities, which aim to improve the conditions of vulnerable people, he affirmed.
Rocca, for his part, extended thanks to the Egyptian government for hosting the Humanitarian Leadership Conference, which brought together 40 leaders of national societies at the Middle East and Africa along with a number of European and South American countries.
Rocca also said that he was keen to take part in the conference in order to enhance co-operation with Egypt, especially as it gears up to host the United Nations’ Conference of Parties on Climate Change (COP27).
