UNITED NATIONS — Egypt is coordinating with the United States, Qatar, and Türkiye to support the full implementation of US President Donald Trump’s plan for Gaza, including all its stages, Egypt’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Ehab Awad, said.

Awad added the countries were working to ensure that all parties fulfilled their commitments under the plan, MENA reported.

Speaking during a Security Council session on the Palestinian issue and the situation in Gaza, Awad said the conflict was at a crossroads between an opportunity to end decades of violence and risks that could undermine that prospect.

He accused Israel of pursuing unilateral and escalatory measures across the occupied Palestinian territories, saying they were weakening the chances for peace.

Egypt condemned what it described as Israeli efforts to undermine the Palestinian cause through settlement expansion, settler violence, attempts to displace Palestinians, repeated ceasefire violations, and restrictions on humanitarian aid and recovery efforts. It also condemned attacks on humanitarian organisations and UN agencies, particularly the UN agency for Palestinian refugees, UNRWA.

The Egyptian envoy also accused Israel of pressuring the Palestinian Authority and said extremist Israeli government officials had carried out provocations at the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound and the wider Muslim and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, while restricting freedom of worship.

“There is no Israeli sovereignty over occupied Jerusalem or its holy sites,” he said, reaffirming Egypt’s support for Jordan’s custodianship of Jerusalem’s Muslim and Christian holy sites and for preserving their historic and legal status.

Awad urged the Security Council to hold Israel, as the occupying power, accountable for implementing international resolutions, including resolutions 2334 and 2803, and for complying with ceasefire arrangements.

Israel must halt unilateral measures that contradict Trump’s vision and the international rejection of annexing any part of the occupied Palestinian territories or undermining the territorial unity of Gaza and the West Bank, he said.

The representative also called on Israel to meet its obligations under international and humanitarian law, including preventing settler violence against Palestinian civilians and prosecuting those responsible.
