The National Press Authority and the Supreme Media Council celebrated Sunday the success of state-owned publications in adapting to the regulations of the council, in the light of Law No. 180/2018.
In a special ceremony, Authority Chairman Abdel Sadek el-Shorbagi underscored the importance of the state-owned publications, describing them as an “intrinsic part” of Egypt’s national security and a tool of the country’s soft power.
El-Shorbagi said his authority would continue to offer all types of support to these publications so that they carry out their mission properly.
Indicators, he said, show gradual improvements in state-owned press establishments, especially after addressing issues that remained untouched for years in the past.
El-Shorbagi praised the role of the Supreme Media Council and its head, Karam Gabr, in addressing these issues.
Gabr, for his part, said the state-owned press establishments waged battles and offered backing to state authorities at tough times.
They defended state institutions and succeeded in countering terrorist groups in co-operation with state authorities, Gabr said.
He added that state-owned press establishments play an important role nationwide.
These establishments are owned and financed by the people, Gabr said.
They only serve the interests of the Egyptian state, he added.
