Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli has reviewed Egypt’s preparations to host the 2027 African Games, which will serve as a qualifier for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, during a meeting with Minister of Youth and Sports Gohar Nabil on Tuesday.
Madbouli reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting Egyptian sport and ensuring the success of the continental event, highlighting the country’s world-class sports facilities and extensive experience in hosting major international competitions.
He also stressed the importance of preparing Egyptian national teams to achieve strong results, following the national football team’s historic performance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Nabil outlined the organisational and technical preparations for the Games, as well as ongoing coordination with African sports bodies.
He said Egypt supports expanding the number of sports included in the African Olympic qualification programme, creating more opportunities for athletes across the continent to qualify for the Los Angeles 2028 Games.
The minister also presented the main pillars of the national Olympic preparation strategy, including qualification pathways, priority teams, medal prospects and support programmes for athletes. These include domestic and overseas training camps, participation in regional and international competitions, medical support and other measures aimed at improving performance.
He added that the ministry is working closely with the Egyptian Olympic Committee, national sports federations and relevant government bodies to finalise funding mechanisms and ensure full readiness for hosting the 2027 African Games while strengthening Egypt’s Olympic campaign.
