A senior US official said Friday that talks between the United States and Iran on a potential long‑term agreement are ongoing, despite rising military tensions between the two countries.
The official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the United States “remains committed to finding a diplomatic solution with Iran,” describing the current discussions as “technical talks aimed at reaching a durable agreement by mid‑August,” according to Sky News Arabia.
The comments come as both Washington and Tehran signal willingness to address longstanding points of friction, including Iran’s nuclear programme, MENA reported. The United States is seeking a temporary freeze on uranium enrichment and the relinquishing of Iran’s stockpile of near‑weapons‑grade material.
Previous reports have indicated that Pakistan, Qatar and other regional intermediaries have been working to ease tensions and help revive dialogue between the two sides.
