The Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation and Egyptian Expatriates, Badr Abdel-Aati, held a telephone conversation late on Thursday with Massad Boulos, Senior Advisor to the US President for Arab and African Affairs, to discuss the latest developments in Libya.
During the call, Abdel-Aati reaffirmed Egypt’s unwavering support for Libya’s unity, sovereignty, and stability. He stressed the importance of unifying the country’s national institutions and reaching a comprehensive political settlement. He emphasised that this must be achieved through an inclusive, Libyan-owned and Libyan-led process, paving the way for simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections at the earliest opportunity.
Boulos briefed the Foreign Minister on his proposals for advancing a political solution to the Libyan crisis. These form part of ongoing US diplomatic efforts to help bridge gaps between the Libyan parties and foster consensus.
Abdel-Aati commended the efforts of the United Nations, as well as regional and international partners — including the United States — in supporting a sustainable political settlement that preserves Libya’s unity and stability, while ensuring a more prosperous future for its people.
