Egypt’s Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Sherif Fathy, held on Saturday a series of high-level meetings with leading Italian tour operators and airline executives to strengthen bilateral cooperation and boost tourist arrivals from one of Egypt’s key European markets.
During his official visit to Rome and Milan, Fathy discussed launching joint promotional campaigns and organising familiarisation trips for Italian operators, journalists, and influencers to showcase Egypt’s diverse travel offerings.
A central focus of the talks was the ministry’s flight incentive programme. Fathy highlighted targeted support for key destinations—including Marsa Matrouh, El Alamein, Luxor, and Aswan—designed to encourage airlines to expand their services to Egypt.
He also reviewed specific measures introduced to mitigate the impact of recent regional developments. This includes strategic adjustments to the aviation incentive scheme to ensure a steady continuity of flights.
Fathy outlined the ministry’s current tourism strategy, “Egypt… Unmatched Diversity”, which promotes integrated travel experiences that blend cultural heritage, leisure, and nature-based tourism.
He urged Italian operators to expand their holiday packages by linking complementary destinations, suggesting combinations such as Cairo city breaks paired with Nile cruises, the North Coast combined with trips to the Siwa Oasis.
Italian tourism executives confirmed that cultural tourism to Egypt remains robust, while multi-destination packages are attracting growing interest from Italian travellers.
