SEATTLE (United States) — Egypt was held to a 1-1 draw by Iran in their final Group G fixture at Lumen Field in Seattle on Saturday to secure their first-ever qualification for the Round of 32 since their World Cup debut in 1934.
The Pharaohs – who have already secured their passage for the knockout-stage before kick-off – survived a late drama as Iran saw their injury-time winner overturned by VAR allowing Egypt to finish second of the group behind Belgium, who have a better goal difference.
Egypt will now face Australia on Friday in Dallas.
