Iranian negotiator Mohammad Baqer Ghalibaf on Thursday rejected U.S. claims that Tehran will use its unfrozen assets to purchase American agricultural products, calling the assertions completely false.
“The US only exports GMO soybeans, broken promises and trash talks,” Ghalibaf stated in a post on X.
His remarks directly counter statements from U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, who on Wednesday echoed President Donald Trump in insisting that a significant portion of the unblocked Iranian funds would be restricted to purchasing U.S. food and medicine.
Iran maintains that it will have full autonomy over how the assets are spent.
