Egypt’s Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi said cooperation among BRICS countries can help strengthen energy security and support sustainable economic growth.
This came as he took part virtually on Thursday in the 11th BRICS Energy Ministers’ Meeting, hosted by India as part of its 2026 presidency of the group.
Badawi outlined three priorities for future cooperation. These include increasing investments across the energy value chain, expanding cooperation in natural gas and liquefied natural gas (LNG), and supporting industrial projects in petrochemicals, fertilizers, mining and critical minerals.
Badawi said BRICS countries have strong resources, industrial capabilities and financing tools that can support long-term partnerships.
He highlighted Egypt’s strategic location and advanced infrastructure, saying they position the country as a regional hub for energy trade and distribution.
The minister also reviewed Egypt’s energy strategy. The plan focuses on increasing oil and gas production, expanding value-added industries, accelerating mining development and diversifying the energy mix.
These efforts, the minister said, aim to enhance energy security, sustainability and economic growth.
Badawi welcomed the outcomes of the meeting and described BRICS as an important platform for strengthening investment and cooperation among member states.
He also invited BRICS energy ministers to attend the Egypt Mining Forum 2026, which will be held in Cairo on September 28 and 29.
