Egypt, S. Korea discuss cooperation in field of railways

CAIRO – Egyptian Transport Minister Kamel el Wazir conferred with South Korean Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Noh Hyeong-ouk and his accompanying delegation on boosting joint cooperation in the different fields of transport, especially in the fields of railways, metro and maritime transport.

The meeting tackled the fruitful cooperation between Egypt and South Korean and their hope of more cooperation in the different fields of transport, especially as regards upgrading the signaling system and mobile units of metro in addition to training railway operation cadres.

Egyptian Transport Minister Kamel el Wazir (R) during his meeting with South Korean Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Noh Hyeong-ouk inked a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the field of railways.

The Korean official asserted the keenness of his country to increase the volume of cooperation between both countries in a number of sectors, including the transport one.

Meanwhile, Wazir asserted that the Egyptian government pays great attention to optimizing maritime transport, adding that there is a comprehensive plan implemented in this field to make Egypt an international hub for trade and logistics.

Wazir asserted Egypt’s desire to cooperate with South Korea in the field of building cargo ships.

At the end of the meeting, both ministers inked a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the field of railways.

Wazir said that the memo aims at pinpointing means and mechanisms for cooperation in the field of railways and spheres of cooperation between the public and the private sectors of both countries in addition to exchanging expertise.

The memo also aims at developing cooperation in the projects of mobile units, signaling, communications, control systems and the renovation of railways and metro in Cairo, Alexandria and other cities.
