Egypt and Sweden are posed to further promote co-operation in intellectual property protection, innovation, investment, and industrial development.

The issue was at the core of discussion held on Thursday between President of the Egyptian Authority for Intellectual Property, Hisham Azmy, and Sweden’s Ambassador Sweden to Egypt, Dag Juhlin-Dannfelt.

During the meeting, Azmy stated that Egypt places strong emphasis on intellectual property as a cornerstone of sustainable development and the transition towards a knowledge-based, innovation-driven economy.

He noted that the authority is developing an integrated system for protecting intellectual property rights and streamlining registration procedures in line with national legislation, international obligations, and global best practices.

Azmy added that the authority plays a key role in strengthening the investment environment by ensuring robust protection for innovators, investors, and holders of patents and trademarks, thereby enhancing investor confidence and attracting foreign investment.

He further highlighted Egypt’s progress in supporting national industry, particularly in pharmaceuticals and technology, through efforts to localise production, accelerate industrial development, and reinforce pharmaceutical security as part of national security.

For his part, Ambassador Juhlin-Dannfelt praised Egypt’s efforts to modernise its intellectual property framework and strengthen innovation and investment conditions, noting that recent reforms reflect a clear vision for a modern knowledge economy.

He commended the establishment of the Egyptian Authority for Intellectual Property as a unified national body covering all intellectual property fields, describing it as a strong institutional model internationally.

He stressed that effective intellectual property protection is essential for attracting foreign investment, particularly from Swedish and European companies, and highlighted Egypt’s growing attractiveness as an investment destination.
