Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli underscored the importance of resolving financial entanglements between government entities as a key priority on the government’s agenda.
He stressed that such efforts would enhance the efficiency of public spending and support strategic sectors, particularly education and human development.
His remarks came during a ceremony on Sunday in which he witnessed the signing of a co-operation protocol between the Ministries of Finance, Higher Education and Scientific Research, and Planning and Economic Development to settle the financing of the establishment of 11 state-owned national universities at a total cost of LE48.5 billion over three years.
The protocol was signed by Finance Minister Ahmed Kouchouk, Minister of Higher Education Abdel Aziz Konsowa, and Minister of Planning and Economic Development Ahmed Rostom.
Madbouli described the agreement as a tangible outcome of the government’s ongoing efforts to resolve long-standing financial obligations and overlaps among ministries and state entities.
He added that the protocol also reflects the state’s commitment to advancing educational services, expanding modern academic programmes in line with global developments, and equipping future generations with the knowledge and skills needed to support national development.
For his part, Kouchouk affirmed that increasing investment in human development remains among the government’s key priorities. He stressed that spending on education would continue to receive significant attention as part of a comprehensive vision aimed at building the capacities and skills of young people.
Meanwhile, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Abdel Aziz Konsowa said the protocol reflects Egypt’s firm commitment to supporting the national university system and ensuring its sustainability, enabling these institutions to play a vital role in providing advanced higher education and conducting scientific research that contributes to the country’s comprehensive development.
Minister of Planning and Economic Development Ahmed Rostom stated that the protocol comes as part of continued coordination among state institutions to implement President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s directives to increase investment in human development, improve the quality of university education, and prepare qualified graduates capable of meeting the evolving demands of the labour market.
