Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi outlined Egypt’s strategy for developing the energy and mining sectors during a high-level ministerial session at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) in Russia.
Badawi stressed that increasing oil and natural gas production remains central to the country’s strategy to enhance energy security and reinforce its position as a regional hub for energy trade and distribution.
The minister highlighted Egypt’s integrated and sophisticated natural gas infrastructure. He underscored the importance of partnerships and co-operation with Cyprus and investors operating in Cypriot gas fields to maximise the value of Eastern Mediterranean gas resources through Egypt’s infrastructure network.
Badawi stressed that the mining sector is poised to become a key driver of economic growth in the coming years amid rising global demand for strategic minerals essential to the energy transition.
Egypt is implementing a comprehensive vision to achieve a balanced and sustainable energy mix through the expansion of renewable energy and nuclear power projects, while simultaneously laying the foundations for future industries, particularly green hydrogen and green ammonia.
