The Spanish Embassy in Egypt announced organising a cultural and culinary program titled “Spanish cuisine seminar: Mediterranean and Andalusian roots” next Sunday in co-operation with Casa Mediterráneo and Al Fanar Foundation.
In a statement issued Tuesday, the embassy said the two-day programme will offer a journey through history, culture and culinary creativity highlighting the historical ties that connect culinary traditions across both shores of the Mediterranean Sea, MENA reported.
The initiative combines educational, academic and practical activities, inviting both specialists and the general public to explore gastronomy as a shared cultural heritage.
Organised in co-operation with the Cervantes Institute in Cairo, the program will begin with an artistic culinary workshop titled “drawing the Andalusian Mediterranean through food.” The workshop is designed for students of the Faculty of Fine Arts and aims to explore the relationship between art, memory and culinary identity.
In the evening, a session titled “UNESCO cultural heritage of gastronomy” will be held, focusing on the Mediterranean diet.
The statement noted that the event will also feature a live interactive cooking presentation on koshary and Egyptian cuisine by Egyptian chef and entrepreneur Mostafa el-Refaie.
Another interactive cooking demonstration will be organized to introduce young trainee chefs to Spanish cuisine and explore living Andalusian culinary traditions and recipes.
The events in Cairo will conclude with an advanced professional training course for chefs on contemporary Spanish cuisine with Andalusian influences.
