Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli chaired a high-level meeting on Monday to review plans aimed at restructuring the National Media Authority (NMA) and settling its long-standing debts, as the government presses ahead with wider reforms of state economic institutions.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Hussein Eissa, Finance Minister Ahmed Kouchouk, Planning Minister Ahmed Rostom and NMA Chairman Ahmed al-Moslemany.
The government is seeking to restore the authority’s financial and technical performance, Madbouli told the meeting.
He noted that officials have already begun implementing a development strategy centred on governance, expenditure reduction and revenue growth.
The discussions also addressed efforts to settle the authority’s debts and resolve financial disputes with various state bodies.
Kouchouk said the measures are intended to close long-standing financial files that have imposed heavy burdens on the authority, while creating sustainable funding sources to support its future operations.
Al-Moslemany described the meeting as “historic”, saying it demonstrated genuine political will to address challenges facing Maspero that have persisted for decades.
He pointed to recent progress in cutting costs, attracting advertising agencies and expanding digital and social media platforms, which he said had achieved record online audience figures.
Madbouli directed ministers to accelerate the completion of debt settlements while ensuring the authority continues implementing its institutional reform and digital transformation plans.
