Egyptian Petroleum Minister Karim Badawi and Algerian Energy Minister Mohamed Arkab witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation and Algeria’s Sonatrach during Badawi’s official visit to Algiers.
The agreement establishes a framework for Egypt to purchase Algerian crude oil, aimed at securing local market needs, strengthening supply resilience, and supporting Egypt’s role as a regional hub for petroleum trade.
The memorandum was signed by Salah Abdel Karim, CEO of the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation, and Noureddine Daoudi, CEO of Sonatrach, in the presence of Egypt’s Ambassador to Algeria Abdel Latif El-Laih and senior officials from both ministries.
Minister Badawi said the deal reflects the strong historical ties between Egypt and Algeria and marks an important step toward regional energy integration. He conveyed greetings from President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and the Algerian people, noting that the positive momentum in political relations has opened wider prospects for cooperation in energy and petroleum, reinforcing the strategic partnership between the two countries.
