Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to advancing comprehensive economic reform and sustainable development, while boosting co-operation with international partners.
The president also underscored the importance of enhancing institutional efficiency, expanding private sector participation, and continuing social protection programmes aimed at improving citizens’ quality of life.
Sisi made the remarks during a meeting on Monday with Mathias Cormann, Secretary-General of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), in the presence of Egypt’s Ministers of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdel-Aati, and Planning Ahmed Rustsm.
Also attending the meeting were Manal Korine, Director of the Centre for Contribution and Management at OECD, and Karim Dahou, Deputy Director of Global Relations at the organisation, said Presidency Spokesman Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy.
As the meeting started, President Sisi highlighted the state’s achievements in eliminating unsafe areas, providing hundreds of thousands of housing units, and implementing nationwide initiatives such as the “Decent Life” programme, which is set to benefit millions across the country, El-Shennawy added.
Egypt has maintained active co-operation with international partners over recent years, implementing carefully planned economic measures despite significant regional and global challenges, Sisi noted.
The president highlighted the impact of ongoing regional tensions on global trade routes, including reduced revenues from the Suez Canal, while stressing Egypt’s continued commitment to stability and resilience.
During the meeting, the president also pointed to Egypt’s role in hosting millions of foreign nationals affected by crises in their home countries, affirming that they receive services on an equal footing with Egyptian citizens, reflecting the country’s humanitarian approach, El-Shennawy said.
The discussions reflected Egypt’s appreciation of the OECD’s ongoing engagement, including its support for economic reform and development efforts through joint programmes in place since 2021, he added.
In this respect, the president welcomed the organisation’s continued co-operation and emphasised Egypt’s openness to benefiting from international expertise to advance structural and institutional reform.
For his part, the OECD Secretary-General highly appreciated Egypt’s pivotal role in the Middle East and commended its contributions to regional and international development efforts.
He also voiced hopes of further co-operation with Egypt, building on existing programmes and expanding joint initiatives that support inclusive economic growth and sustainable development, Shennawy noted.
