Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Dr Mahmoud Esmat, received on Wednesday the Rwandan Minister of State for Infrastructure, Jean de Dieu Uihangane, at the ministry’s headquarters in the New Administrative Capital.

The meeting was held on the sidelines of the Rwandan minister’s participation in the 21st Ministerial Meeting of the East African Power Pool (EAPP).

Discussions addressed avenues for enhancing bilateral co-operation, advancing joint initiatives, supporting electricity interconnection efforts, and strengthening energy security across the region, the ministry said in a statement.

It added that Minister Esmat, for his part, welcomed the Rwandan delegation, underscoring the depth of relations between Egypt and Rwanda and reaffirming Egypt’s commitment to expanding co-operation in electricity and renewable energy.

He further highlighted the importance of regional collaboration and coordinated efforts to achieve shared objectives within the energy sector.

Dr Esmat outlined Egypt’s vision for diversifying energy sources and its national energy strategy, noting the targeted energy mix and the expansion of renewable energy’s contribution to 45 per cent by 2028.

He also referred to ongoing measures to encourage private sector participation and broaden investment in solar and wind energy projects.

He further emphasised the ministry’s focus on deepening partnerships with African countries, enhancing coordination, and promoting the exchange of technical expertise within the framework of shared development priorities aimed at achieving sustainable growth.

For his part, the Rwandan minister expressed his appreciation for the warm reception and reaffirmed the strength of bilateral relations between Egypt and Rwanda.

He highlighted the importance of expanding co-operation in electricity and renewable energy, reflecting the shared aspiration of both countries to further strengthen collaboration in these strategic sectors.
