Brussels – Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi stressed keenness to enhance co-operation with Belgium in view of the historical relations between the two countries. He noted that the participation in the African/European summit aims at promoting development and achieving the aspirations of African peoples.

The President’s made these remarks during his talks with Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Crooin Brussels on Thursday in the presence of the delegations of the two countries, Presidency Spokesman Ambassador Bassam Radi said.

During the meeting, the President said that he hopes the summit would develop partnership between Europe and Africa as an extension of the historical Egyptian role in laying the foundations for this partnership through Cairo’s hosting of the first summit between the two sides in 2000.

President Sisi also asserted that Egypt has built a highly developed infrastructure during the past seven years, which allows effective co-operation and partnership in the field of energy of all kinds, whether in terms of production, connection and distribution to the neighboring countries of the region, including Europe.

For his part, the Belgian Prime Minister affirmed his keenness to enhance cooperation and partnership with Egypt and encourage Belgian companies to increase work in Egypt. He added that Belgium looks forward to developing the distinguished and close relations with Egypt.

The Belgian prime minister, meanwhile, praised Egypt’s achievements in the field of development and the mega national projects, which contributed to motivating Belgian companies to work in Egypt and take advantage of promising investment opportunities.

The meeting also witnessed a review of a number of issues of bilateral relations between the two countries in all fields, especially the development and management of ports, logistics, clean and renewable energy and the green transformation against the background of the great development that Egypt is witnessing in this increasingly important sector at the international level.

De Croo also praised Egypt’s remarkable efforts under the leadership of President Sisi, in the field of combating extremist ideology and consolidating the principles of freedom of belief, tolerance and acceptance of the other as well as efforts to empower women and the launch of the national strategy for human rights.
