Minister of Industry, Khaled Hashem, and the Belarusian Ambassador in Cairo Yevgeny Sobolevsky probed on Thursday ways of boosting industrial co-operation between the two countries.

The meeting was attended by Ahmed Maghawry, Assistant Minister for International Co-operation, and Yevgeny Belov, Counselor at the Belarusian Embassy.

As the meeting started, Minister Hashem emphasised Egypt’s keenness to deepen economic ties with Belarus and build on the longstanding bilateral bonds.

He also highlighted the government’s interest in leveraging Belarusian industrial expertise to localise heavy industries, as well as tractor and agricultural machinery manufacturing in Egypt.

The Ministry of Industry is keen to expand the presence of Belarusian companies and broaden their operations in the Egyptian market, he said.

Hashem also stressed the importance of increasing the local components of Belarusian-made tractors and trucks manufactured in Egypt, in line with the requirements of the local preference law in government procurement, which would help boost demand for these industries.

For his part, Ambassador Sobolevsky reaffirmed Belarus’s commitment to deepening co-operation with Egypt, describing it as one of Belarus’s key partners in the region, particularly in light of the constructive engagement between the two governments.

He also invited the Ministry of Industry to participate in the eighth session of the Egyptian-Belarusian Joint Trade Committee, scheduled to be held in Minsk in May 2026.

The ambassador further stressed the importance of convening the fourth meeting of the joint working group on industrial co-operation, building on the outcomes of its third meeting held in Cairo in July 2023.
