Egypt is stepping up efforts to deepen local manufacturing and reduce import bill, as senior officials move to strengthen partnerships between state institutions and the private sector in line with the country’s long-term industrial strategy.

Minister of State for Military Production Salah El-Din Gombalat and Chairman of Federation of Egyptian Industries (FEI) Mohamed El-Sewedy discussed on Tuesday ways to enhance local manufacturing and localise advanced industrial technologies, as per presidential directives to increase domestic production and reduce imports.

The meeting focused on consolidating co-operation between state-owned and private sector companies to maximise industrial capabilities, an official press release stated.

Gombalat stressed the importance of sustained coordination with the FEI, highlighting its key role in shaping manufacturing processes across major Egyptian firms and fostering partnerships within the industrial ecosystem.

He also underscored the need to leverage the production and human capacities of military production companies, aligning with the National Industrial Strategy (2024–2030), which aims to achieve a qualitative leap in the sector, support the national economy and enhance the competitiveness of Egyptian products.

For his part, El-Sewedy stressed the importance of increasing local content through industrial partnerships that open export opportunities, generate foreign currency revenues and add value to manufacturing processes. He noted that the national strategy targets raising industry’s contribution to GDP by 2030 through establishing new factories, improving quality and expanding into green industries.

The talks also covered potential co-operation with El-Sewedy Group to support feeder industries, as well as addressing challenges to ensure projects are implemented according to the highest standards, while attracting further investment into the sector.
