Egypt’s Ministry of Civil Aviation has announced the renewal of Egypt’s agreement to host the Regional Office for the Middle East of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), reinforcing the country’s position as a leading regional and global hub for civil aviation.

The agreement was signed by Minister of Civil Aviation, Sameh el-Hefny, and Juan Carlos Salazar, Secretary General of ICAO, at the ministry’s headquarters in Cairo, in the presence of senior officials from both sides.

El-Hefny stated that the renewal reflects ICAO’s confidence in Egypt’s advanced infrastructure and institutional capabilities.

He emphasised that Egypt continues to play a pivotal role in supporting and developing the civil aviation sector, both regionally and internationally, through strengthened co-operation with global organisations and a commitment to the highest standards of safety and operational efficiency.

He further noted that the Cairo office serves as a central platform for technical support, training, and capacity building for Middle Eastern member states, contributing to regional integration and sustainable growth in air transport.

Salazar praised Egypt’s active and strategic partnership, highlighting the Cairo office as a vital contributor to ICAO’s programmes.

He noted its role in enhancing aviation safety, improving operational performance, and advancing environmental sustainability across the region.

Egypt has hosted the ICAO Middle East Regional Office since 1953.

It remains one of seven global regional offices, supporting 15 member states and advancing key objectives related to safety, efficiency, innovation, and sustainability in civil aviation.
