The Egyptian government has launched the fourth round of its National Initiative for Smart Green Projects (NISGP), reinforcing efforts to advance local climate action and accelerate the transition to a green economy under the patronage of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.
Minister of Local Development and Environment Manal Awad announced on Sunday the opening of applications, describing the initiative as a pioneering national platform supporting innovative solutions to enhance environmental sustainability and improve quality of life across Egypt’s governorates.
She noted that the fourth round builds on previous successes and underscores the state’s continued commitment to advancing climate action and promoting sustainable development at the local level.
The initiative targets a broad range of participants through six main categories: large-scale projects, medium-sized projects, small local projects, start-ups, women-focused climate and sustainability initiatives, and non-profit, community-driven projects.
Awad said the initiative has become an effective instrument for advancing the green economy by fostering innovation and empowering young people, women and the private sector.
She added that this aligns with the ministry’s 2026–2030 strategy, which prioritises smart environmental governance, digital transformation, sustainable resource management and the promotion of locally driven green economic growth.
