Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdel-Aati stressed the need to refocus global attention on the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Gaza.
Minister Abdel-Aati participated on Wednesday, in a high-level panel discussion on early recovery in Gaza held at the World Bank Group (WBG) headquarters in Washington, alongside senior international officials, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Thursday.
The Egyptian top diplomat warned against declining international engagement amid multiple regional crises, and underscored the importance of joint efforts to de-escalate tensions, given their direct impact on the Strip.
He also emphasised the importance of the national committee for Gaza administration beginning its work from within the territory to manage daily affairs in an effective manner.
This will pave the way for the Palestinian Authority’s full return, he said, calling for a swift deployment of an international stabilisation force.
Minister Abdel-Aati stressed the need to coordinate bilateral and multilateral initiatives, focusing on projects with immediate and tangible impact, including the provision of medicines, construction materials, water desalination plants, mobile power stations, and temporary housing.
Such efforts are essential to making Gaza livable during the transitional phase, he said.
He also commended the vital role of the national red crescent and red cross societies, particularly the Egyptian Red Crescent, highlighting their expanding contribution beyond humanitarian aid to include early recovery efforts.
