The Ministers of Transport and Electricity and Renewable Energy conducted a field visit to Galala Mountain in Suez Governorate to launch steps for new renewable energy projects. The initiative, directed by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, focuses on exploiting the area’s strong wind speeds to generate electricity and expand clean energy capacity.
The delegation inspected sites at elevations between 1,280 and 1,800 meters, where average wind speeds reach 15 meters per second, considered ideal for power generation. Discussions covered proposed routes for linking new wind farms to the national grid, integration with existing projects in Zafarana, and the potential to combine solar power stations with wind projects to maximize efficiency, reduce costs, and improve resource management.
Officials stressed that the plan aligns with Egypt’s national energy strategy to diversify sources, increase the share of renewables, and reduce reliance on fossil fuels. The government aims to raise renewable energy to 45 percent of the energy mix by 2028. The visit also emphasized accelerating project timelines to meet sustainability goals and strengthen Egypt’s role as a regional leader in renewable energy.
