Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aati met on Sunday with Dr. Hisham Sateet, head of the Egyptian Unified Procurement Authority, to discuss expanding cooperation in health security and boosting the presence of Egyptian medicines in African markets.
The talks focused on Egypt’s advanced pharmaceutical industry and regulatory expertise, which the minister said could help African countries access affordable medical supplies. Abdel-Aati emphasized Egypt’s role as a regional hub for medical and pharmaceutical industries, supporting continental health security and enabling African partners to benefit from preferential access to Egyptian products.
For his part, Sateet outlined the authority’s efforts to modernize procurement systems, improve resource management, and strengthen Egypt’s readiness for health crises. He highlighted plans to expand cooperation with African partners to support shared health security goals.
Both sides stressed the importance of closer collaboration with the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, particularly in epidemic response and strengthening health systems. They also discussed preparations for the upcoming Africa Health ExCon, a major medical exhibition and conference that serves as a platform for governments and private sector partners to build partnerships, share expertise, and advance integration in medical and pharmaceutical industries across the continent.
The meeting underscored Egypt’s commitment to supporting African health systems, expanding access to medicines, and reinforcing regional cooperation to address future health challenges.
