Transport Minister Kamel el-Wazir announced Tuesday the arrival of three Super Post-Panamax quay cranes and six automated yard cranes at the Safaga 2 multipurpose terminal in Safaga Port, marking a major milestone in the terminal’s development.

The delivery is a key step in completing the terminal’s superstructure as part of the Greater Safaga Port development project, which follows President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s directives to position Egypt as a regional hub for transport and logistics.

The new cranes, manufactured by ZPMC, are set to significantly enhance the terminal’s capacity to handle large-scale shipping operations. The ship-to-shore cranes are capable of servicing high-capacity vessels, accelerating container turnover, while the intelligent automated yard cranes minimise human error and streamline cargo handling.

The upgraded terminal is expected to strengthen Egypt’s connectivity to global shipping lanes and serve as a major gateway for economic development in Upper Egypt and the Golden Triangle mining region.

Covering 776,000 square metes, the Safaga 2 terminal is part of the integrated Safaga-Qena-Abu Tartour logistics corridor. Managed by Abu Dhabi Ports Group, the facility is designed to handle up to 2 million containers and 7 million tonnes of cargo annually, reinforcing Egypt’s role in regional and international trade.
