The 172nd convoy of humanitarian aid trucks has begun entering the Gaza Strip for Palestinians, via the auxiliary gate of the Rafah Border Crossing toward the Karem Abu Salem crossing, in preparation for their entry into the Strip.

The step is part of Egypt’s ongoing efforts to alleviate humanitarian crisis affecting more than two million Palestinians in Gaza. An official source said the trucks are carrying large quantities of food and relief aid, including food supplies and parcels, flour, fresh bread, legumes, preserved foods, medicines, personal care items, tents and petroleum materials.

The Egyptian Red Crescent (ERC) announced Tuesday that “Zad Al-Izza… From Egypt to Gaza” convoy, on its 172nd day, carried approximately 44,000 food baskets, including food parcels, flour, relief materials, as well as petroleum supplies to operate hospitals and vital facilities in the Strip.

The ERC also dispatched essential winter supplies, including blankets, mattresses, tarpaulins and tents to shelter those affected.

In a related context, the ERC continued its humanitarian efforts by receiving the 32nd batch of wounded, sick and injured Palestinians, along with their companions, facilitating crossing procedures, distributing hot meals, providing warm clothing and personal care supplies, and handing out “return kits” to those going back to Gaza.

The ERC has maintained a presence at the border since the beginning of the crisis. Rafah Border Crossing on the Egyptian side has never been completely closed and the organisation has remained on full alert across all logistical centres. It has continued its efforts to deliver humanitarian and relief aid, which has exceeded 900,000 tonnes, with the support of more than 65,000 volunteers.
