Minister of Industry Khaled Hashem affirmed that Egypt and the United States enjoy robust relations underpinned by a long-standing history of co-operation, emphasising the government’s commitment to further strengthening bilateral trade ties, particularly in priority sectors.
His remarks came during a meeting on Tuesday with a delegation from the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) in Cairo, ahead of its upcoming “Doorknock Mission” to Washington.
Hashem stressed the importance of reviewing the temporary tariffs imposed on Egyptian rebar exports to the US market, noting that easing these measures would enhance the competitiveness of Egyptian exports.
He also highlighted promising investment opportunities for US companies in Egypt, particularly in data centres and artificial intelligence-related industries.
He referred to opportunities for US firms to participate in renewable energy projects within Egypt’s industrial zones.
“The state is keen to strengthen the role of the private sector as a key partner in industrial development,” Hashem said, noting that the Ministry of Industry is currently reviewing the national industrial development strategy to better align with evolving global and regional dynamics, with a focus on strategic industries.
He added that the ministry is promoting the concept of “productive villages” by supporting small enterprises through financing and technical training programmes aimed at enhancing their integration into supply chains.
Hashem revealed plans to launch a new financing mechanism through industrial investment funds, open to public participation, to support promising industrial projects. The first fund is expected to become operational in the final quarter of the year.
He also underscored ongoing coordination with the Ministry of Higher Education to establish a technology park designed to link research outputs with industrial needs and transform innovation into market-ready products.
