CAIRO – Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi witnessed Monday the inauguration of Egypt Petroleum Show (EGYPS 2022) amid massive local and international participation of oil and energy ministers, oil industry experts and heads of mega companies and world organisations operating in the oil sphere.
Upon his arrival at the venue of the fifth edition of Egypt’s international energy conference, the president saluted the participants.
The show is the biggest and most important regional and international gathering for the oil and gas industry in the North Africa and the Mediterranean regions.
The three-day event is being held at Egypt International Exhibition Centre.
The inauguration of Egypt Petroleum Show (EGYPS 2022) started with screening a documentary featuring achievements of the petroleum sector, along with the importance of holding the gathering.
The documentary shed light on the untoward impact of the coronavirus pandemic that took its toll on world economies, triggering a global decline on demand for petroleum materials
It cited Egypt’s success under the leadership of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to move ahead; becoming the only country in the region that managed to achieve tangible economic growth.
Egypt succeeded in realising self-sufficiency from natural gas, as the country’s natural gas production rates witnessed an unprecedented increase, according to the documentary.
It also highlighted the importance of EGYPS and the upcoming UN Climate Change Conference (UNFCC) COP27, to be held in Egypt in November, in further drawing the world’s attention to Egypt.
Egypt is enjoying a strong vision and robust infrastructure services that would hep it play a pivotal role as a leading renewable energy powered-country, it added.
Christopher Hudson, President of Dmg Petroleum Companies said Egypt plays an essential role in supporting the energy sector, especially in North Africa and the East Mediterranean regions.
Addressing the EGYPS inaugural session, the Dmg president said 2022 will be a special year for the energy domain, as energy industry is expected to witness momentum growth, despite daunting challenges that has been besetting world economies for almost two years.
EGYPS has become a pivotal and essential gathering, Hudson said, citing the wide-scale participation of mega energy tycoons in the event, with the presence of 60 countries and 450 exhibitors.
He added that President Sisi’s participation in the gathering attests to the importance of the event, lauding Egypt’s efforts in this regard.
Executive Director, International Energy Agency (IEA) Dr. Fatih Birol said the EGYPS is being held at a crucial moment for Egypt, Africa and the entire world, referring to the great progress Egypt has achieved over the past years in the energy sphere.
During the gathering, President Abdel Fattah El Sisi witnessed a discussion panel, moderated by CNN anchor John Defterios on laying down a unified vision for energy transformation in Africa, along with efforts to fight climate change in the continent in preparation for Egypt hosting COP27.
