Egypt’s Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise Development Agency (MSMEDA) and the Jordan Enterprise Development Corporation (JEDCO) have probed ways to boost economic integration and SMEs in both countries.
MSMEDA and JEDCO held virtual discussions,on Sunday, which brought together officials from both sides and representatives from several Egyptian government bodies, including the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI), the Industrial Development Authority (IDA), the Egyptian Commercial Service (ECS), the Egyptian Drug Authority(EDA), the General Organization for Export and Import Control (GOEIC), the Egyptian Organisation for Standardisation and Quality (EOS), and the Customs Authority, MSMEDAsaid in a statement
The talks aimed to promote economic integration by identifying investment and industrial co-operation opportunities, encouraging young entrepreneurs in both countries to establish or expand SMEs, and clarifying export and licensing procedures, joint manufacturing opportunities, and regulatory requirements.
MSMEDA Chief Executive Bassel Rahmy said the agency was working with state institutions to strengthen co-operation with Arab countries to boost trade and improve the marketing of industrial and productive SME goods, while creating sustainable job opportunities for young people.
Rahmy added that co-operation with JEDCOwould include organising joint exhibitions to promote SME products, enhancing business matchmaking, exploring joint manufacturing and value chain integration, and facilitating investment through free zones and streamlined regulatory procedures.
Acting Executive Director of JEDCO Dana Al-Zoubi said the initiative was part of ongoing efforts to open Arab markets to SME products by providing technical and financial support and enhancing export readiness.
