Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdel-Aati met on Tuesday with Minister of Social Solidarity Maya Morsi and former top diplomat Mohamed El-Orabi, who now serves as Head of Afro-Asian People’s Solidarity Organisation (AAPSO).

The meeting has reviewed AAPSO’s activities since El-Orabi assumed office, reflecting confidence in Egypt’s leading role in supporting Afro-Asian initiatives.

Discussions focused on activating the organisation’s programmes over the coming period, as well as enhancing its contribution to development, poverty alleviation, and the promotion of peace and security.

Minister Abdel-Aati commended the AAPSO’s historic role since it was founded in Cairo as a platform to consolidate solidarity between African and Asian peoples, support their shared struggle for national sovereignty, and promote economic security and social development.

He also emphasised the importance of national coordination to support the organisation’s initiatives, particularly in development, human rights, and peaceful dialogue, while further enhancing its impact on Afro-Asian affairs.

For her part, Minister Morsi expressed her ministry’s readiness to support the organisation’s activities, especially in social and humanitarian fields, and to strengthen cooperation with civil society institutions to achieve sustainable development goals and enhance the role of civic engagement in promoting Afro-Asian solidarity.

For his part, El-Orabi highly appreciated Egypt’s support, reaffirming commitment to advancing the organisation’s role as an effective platform for African and Asian solidarity and global South cooperation.

He also highlighted plans to expand its programmes and activities to serve development, peace, and security, reflecting the aspirations of the peoples of the two continents toward a more stable and prosperous future.
