Time magazine has included the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) among the world’s leading tourist and archaeological destinations recommended for visitation in 2026.
In a recent report, the magazine highlighted a selection of the most significant cultural and heritage sites worldwide, noting that the GEM stands out as a landmark addition to Egypt’s tourism and cultural landscape.
The report praised the museum’s archaeological collections, describing them as exceptional and reflective of the depth and continuity of Egyptian civilisation over thousands of years.
It further noted that the museum represents a significant qualitative advancement in the preservation and presentation of antiquities.
The magazine also drew attention to the advanced environmental control systems installed within the museum’s galleries, which ensure the highest standards of conservation for its artefacts.
Particular emphasis was placed on the treasures of King Tutankhamun, identified as one of the museum’s most prominent attractions.
The report concluded that the museum offers a distinctive visitor experience that combines accessibility with depth, allowing visitors to engage directly with some of the most renowned artefacts of ancient Egyptian civilisation in their country of origin.
