Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdel-Aati met on Wednesday with a delegation from the European Investment Bank (EIB) led by Ulrich Brunnhuber, Head of Middle East and North Africa Operations, and Inmaculada Martinez, Head of the Levant Unit.
The meeting discussed the economic impact of military escalation in the region. Minister Abdel-Aati stressed the need to strengthen cooperation with international financial institutions to support Egypt’s economy. He highlighted challenges such as pressure on energy reserves, volatility in global markets, and rising inflation.
The minister praised Egypt’s strong partnership with the European Investment Bank, noting that Egypt is the bank’s largest operation area outside the EU. He pointed to ongoing cooperation in infrastructure projects, especially in transport, water, and sanitation.
He emphasised the importance of food security projects funded by the bank to help Egypt face global supply chain disruptions. Abdel-Aati welcomed the role of the bank’s regional office in Cairo and expressed hope for expanded cooperation in green projects, health, and housing in the coming period.
This meeting reflects Egypt’s push to secure international support for its economy amid regional instability.
