Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Mahmoud Esmat, said Egypt is pressing ahead with the implementation of the El Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant in line with its approved timetable, underscoring the project’s central role in the country’s long-term energy strategy.

The minister’s remarks came during a meeting on Sunday with Sherif Helmy, Chairman of the Nuclear Power Plants Authority (NPPA), to review the latest developments and progress achieved across various phases of the project.

Discussions during the meeting focused on implementation milestones, workflow progress, and strict adherence to the project’s master plan, with particular emphasis on completing the strategic facility and linking it to the national electricity grid.

Esmat stressed the importance of maintaining close coordination between Egyptian and Russian partners, ensuring seamless collaboration among all project teams, and adhering to execution schedules.

He underscored that nuclear energy is a key pillar of Egypt’s energy mix and a cornerstone of its Vision 2030 strategy, highlighting its role in supporting sustainable development, meeting rising electricity demand, and enhancing energy security.

The El Dabaa project, he noted, stands as a flagship outcome of the strategic partnership between Egypt and Russia under Egypt’s peaceful nuclear energy programme.

The minister also outlined plans to maximise national expertise through specialised training programmes at home and abroad to qualify personnel for plant operations. He pointed to ongoing efforts to localise the manufacturing of selected equipment and components, in line with the state’s broader strategy to boost industrial development.

Esmat reaffirmed the importance of sustained coordination among all stakeholders, alongside continued diversification of electricity generation sources. He highlighted the government’s focus on expanding reliance on clean and renewable energy, reducing fuel consumption, and curbing carbon emissions.

The Dabaa nuclear project is conducted under direct and continuous follow-up by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, reflecting its national priority. The El Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant, he said, is a cornerstone of Egypt’s peaceful nuclear programme and will play a vital role in strengthening grid stability, improving service quality, and advancing the country’s transition toward a more sustainable energy future.
