Egypt’s leading media authorities voiced concern over recent harmful media practices and reaffirmed the strength of Egypt’s ties with its Arab partners.

The Ministry of Information, Supreme Council for Media Regulation, National Press Authority, and National Media Authority issued a joint statement on Wednesday, urging strict adherence to professional standards and reliance on official sources.

The statement warned that recent negative media conduct in Egypt and across the Arab world risks undermining longstanding, deeply rooted relations with sisterly Arab nations. It stressed that these bonds are built on shared history, mutual interests, and a common destiny.

Highlighting relations with Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Iraq, and Jordan, the statement noted that these ties have been repeatedly reinforced through decades of regional challenges and crises. Attempts to undermine these relations were condemned as unacceptable and damaging to both national and collective Arab interests, serving only those seeking to destabilise the region.

Media professionals were urged to refrain from baseless disputes and emotional exchanges that contradict the spirit of Arab fraternity. Intellectuals and opinion leaders were called on to play an active role in countering divisive narratives.

The statement also cautioned citizens to verify information, avoid spreading rumours, and rely only on official communications. The authorities announced plans to enforce legal frameworks to regulate media performance, while encouraging Arab counterparts to take similar measures to safeguard regional unity.

Concluding the statement, the signatories reaffirmed the enduring solidarity between Egypt and its Arab neighbours and expressed hope for continued cohesion and resilience in the face of regional challenges.
