Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation, and Egyptian Expatriates Abroad, Badr Abdel-Aati, met with China’s Special Envoy to the Middle East Zhai Jun in Cairo on Tuesday.
Minister Abdel-Aati voiced Egypt’s appreciation for the strategic partnership with China, highlighting robust coordination on issues of mutual interest, particularly regional security. “Our bilateral relations have witnessed significant development in recent years, reflected in frequent high-level exchanges”.
As we celebrate 70 years of diplomatic ties, Egypt is committed to strengthening co-operation, including expanding Chinese investments in the industrial sector, in a way that would contribute to the localisation of industry, boost technology transfer and strengthen industrial supply chains,” he said.
The discussions addressed escalating tensions in the region, with Minister Abdel-Aati warning against the severe consequences of ongoing military conflicts. He stressed the importance of de-escalation, diplomacy, and dialogue, while reaffirming Egypt’s solidarity with Gulf states and Jordan. He condemned attacks on Arab territories and affirmed that any violation of sovereignty threatens both Egyptian and Arab national security.
The minister also highlighted the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, calling for urgent support for the National Committee for Gaza Management to reinstate Palestinian Authority’s responsibilities in Gaza and the West Bank. He emphasised the need for early recovery, reconstruction, and improved humanitarian conditions.
On Egypt’s water security, Minister Abdel-Aati reiterated that the Nile is Egypt’s lifeline, stressing constructive co-operation with Nile Basin countries in accordance with international law and mutual interests, while firmly rejecting unilateral actions.
For his part, Special Envoy Zhai Jun praised Egypt’s pivotal role in promoting regional peace and stability and commended its efforts to advance political settlements across the Middle East.
