The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research has announced ongoing talks to establish a branch of a Spanish university in Egypt.
Minister Abdelaziz Konsowa met with Professor Mamoun Mohamed from KTH Royal Institute of Technology, joined by Assistant Minister Mohamed Sharkawy, to discuss the proposed project.
The proposal includes establishing faculties in engineering, computer science, cybersecurity and humanities. It also outlines the study programmes and duration of the academic degrees.
Konsowa said Egypt is keen to host branches of leading international universities in order to bring global expertise to local students. He stressed that such initiatives strengthen academic partnerships and provide advanced educational opportunities.
The minister highlighted the importance of creating centres of scientific excellence linked to the parent university’s areas of specialization. These centres would be jointly staffed by Egyptian and foreign professors and would produce applied research supporting industry and development. He added that partnerships with Egyptian public universities are essential to maximise the benefits of such projects.
Professor Mohamed explained that the Spanish university aims to deliver modern programmesaligned with European standards, enabling graduates to acquire advanced skills for both local and international job markets.
Sharkawy noted that the project fits within Egypt’s broader strategy to expand the presence of foreign university branches, enhance the competitiveness of the higher education sector, and facilitate the transfer of knowledge and technology.
Graduates are expected to receive high-quality education that improves their career prospects both at home and abroad.
