More than 2.1 million citizens have benefited from the Ministry of Health and Population’s initiative to provide healthcare services for elderly people, over 65 years, since it was launched in October 2022, as part of the broader presidential initiative “100 Million Health”.

The inititivtive aims to improve quality of life for older citizens through early detection of common non-communicable diseases, including hypertension, diabetes, high cholesterol, kidney disease, anaemia and malnutrition, Ministry Spokesman Houssam Abdel Ghaffar said.

Beneficiaries receive comprehensive clinical examinations covering key health indicators, as well as advanced tests such as electrocardiograms, abdominal and liver ultrasound scans, vision tests, and oral and dental assessments, he added.

It covers screening for age-related psychological and cognitive disorders using specialised questionnaires, enabling comprehensive monitoring of patients’ overall health, he added.

Participants are issued periodic follow-up cards to track their health status, while cases requiring advanced treatment are referred to specialised hospitals for further care, Abdel Ghaffar said.

The programme reflects state commitment to providing free and integrated healthcare services for the elderly, he stressed.
