Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi held a phone call with Qatar’s Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, to discuss the repercussions of an Iranian attack that targeted Qatari territory, according to a statement from Egypt’s presidency.
Presidential spokesperson Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy said El-Sisi reaffirmed Egypt’s solidarity with Qatar’s leadership and people, stressing that any violation of an Arab country’s sovereignty has negative consequences for the stability of the entire region and increases the risks of the current regional situation.
El Sisi also called for intensified international and regional efforts to contain tensions, emphasizing that dialogue and political and diplomatic solutions remain the best path to resolving crises. He warned that continued military escalation would only deepen suffering and undermine prospects for development and peace.
For his part, Sheikh Tamim expressed appreciation for Egypt’s supportive stance, praising the close fraternal ties and longstanding historical relations between the two countries and their peoples.
