CAIRO – Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to strengthening regional partnerships and accelerating the implementation of natural gas link projects with Cyprus.
The statement came during an extended roundtable hosted by the minister at the Middle East Institute (MEI) in Washington, attended by experts and specialists on Middle Eastern affairs.
The discussion underlined Egypt’s strategic role as a regional hub for energy trade and distribution.
Badawi said Egypt’s infrastructure is fully prepared to transport Cypriot gas to Europe once production projects in Cypriot fields are completed.
He asserted that political stability and long-term planning have enabled Egypt to create an attractive investment environment in the energy and mining sectors through legislative reforms, investment incentives, and world-class infrastructure.
He added that Egypt is pursuing further cooperation opportunities in the energy sector, expanding investment in gas resources in the Eastern and Western Mediterranean and the southwestern desert through advanced seismic surveys.
Badawi also noted that Egypt’s mining sector is entering a new phase, with much of the country’s mineral wealth still untapped.
Efforts are ongoing to attract partnerships for gold, industrial minerals, and critical metals, while expanding local manufacturing and maximizing value addition, he added.
