KUWAIT CITY – Under the patronage of the State of Kuwait, the Digital Cooperation Organization (DCO) inaugurated its 5th General Assembly on Wednesday, gathering 16 communications and digital economy ministers alongside global leaders to navigate the challenges of the AI era.
The assembly, themed “Digital Prosperity in the Age of AI,” underscores Kuwait’s presidency for 2025 and its commitment to fostering a secure, inclusive, and collaborative digital landscape.
AlYahya: “Closing the Digital Divide is an Urgent Mandate”.
In a pivotal address, DCO Secretary-General Deemah AlYahya lauded the leadership of Kuwait and emphasized that the organization now comprising 16 member states and over 60 observers is entering a critical “turning point” for the global digital economy.
AlYahya highlighted that while Artificial Intelligence is fundamentally restructuring economic sectors and government services, its benefits must not be concentrated in the hands of a few.
“Continued disparities in digital infrastructure and skills will only deepen digital divisions unless we take urgent and effective action,” AlYahya warned. She called for a unified global effort to ensure that the gains of digital transformation are distributed fairly across all nations, regardless of their current stage of development.
Kuwait Leads the Charge Against Online Misinformation
Presiding over the assembly, H.E. Omar Al-Omar, Kuwait’s Minister of State for Communication Affairs, highlighted the nation’s proactive stance in chairing the Ministerial Committee on Combating Online Misinformation.
“Digital transformation imposes increasing responsibilities on governments to provide secure and reliable services,” Al-Omar stated. He revealed that Kuwait has spearheaded the development of technical tools and practical guidelines designed for immediate application, rather than remaining “policies on a shelf.”
