Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi received a phone call on Saturday from his Iranian counterpart Masoud Pezeshkian, according to an official statement from Egypt’s presidential office.
The conversation focused on recent developments regarding Iran’s nuclear file, Presidential Spokesman Mohamed El-Shennawy said.
President Sisi expressed Egypt’s deep concern over escalating tensions in the Middle East, emphasising the urgent need to avoid any further escalation and to reject military solutions.
He strongly reiterated that diplomatic paths remain the only viable and optimal way to resolve the crisis, to help spare the region further instability.
El-Shennawy also noted that President Sisi reaffirmed Egypt’s ongoing efforts to encourage both the United States and Iran to return to the negotiating table, aiming for a comprehensive and peaceful resolution to the Iranian nuclear issue.
President Sisi highlighted the importance of regional and international stability, a point he recently discussed with US President Donald Trump during their bilateral meeting at the Davos Forum.
In the same context, President Sisi expressed his hope that all stakeholders will prioritise dialogue to overcome differences and reach a peaceful settlement, stressing Egypt’s support for international endeavors to this end.
For his part, President Pezeshkian expressed his gratitude for Egypt’s positive and constructive role in preventing escalation and maintaining security and stability across the region. He affirmed Iran’s commitment to strengthening political dialogue and coordination with Egypt in support of regional stability.
