CAIRO – Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Egyptian Expatriates Dr Badr Abdel-Aati discussed with High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas Egyptian-EU relations and regional developments, as well as ways to reduce regional tensions.
The Foreign Ministry’s spokesperson, Tamim Khallaf, said this came during a phone call on Friday that focused on enhancing the strategic and comprehensive partnership between Egypt and the European Union, particularly following the first Egypt-EU summit held in Brussels in October.
The spokesman added that Abdel-Aati and the EU official welcomed the significant progress in bilateral relations in all fields, stressing their joint commitment to continued coordination and consultation to achieve shared interests.
They underscored the importance of building on the summit’s outcomes, implementing the signed memoranda of understanding in various sectors, attracting additional European investments to Egypt, facilitating Egyptian exports to European markets, and enhancing cooperation with the private sector.
The call also addressed regional developments, topped by the situation in the Gaza Strip.
The minister reaffirmed the need for coordinated regional and international efforts to implement the second phase of the US plan, support the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza (NCAG) as a temporary authority responsible for daily affairs, and pave the way for the Palestinian Authority to resume its responsibilities in the Strip.
He stressed the urgent deployment of an international stabilization force to monitor the ceasefire, ensure the flow of humanitarian aid, and facilitate Israel’s withdrawal from the area.
He noted that these measures are essential for early recovery and reconstruction in line with the needs of Gaza’s population.
Regarding developments in Sudan, Abdel-Aati briefed the EU official on Egypt’s intensive efforts under the Quadripartite Mechanism, stressing the importance of reaching a humanitarian truce to enable a comprehensive ceasefire and initiate an inclusive political process led by Sudanese stakeholders.
He underlined the priority of establishing safe humanitarian corridors to ensure aid reaches the Sudanese people without obstacles, reiterating Egypt’s firm stance in support of Sudan’s sovereignty, unity, territorial integrity, and the protection of its national institutions.
On broader regional tensions, the minister stressed the importance of de-escalation to prevent instability, promoting a conducive environment for diplomatic solutions, and achieving political settlements that support regional security and stability.
He stressed the need of creating conditions to resume US-Iran dialogue on the Iranian nuclear file, aiming for a comprehensive settlement that respects the interests of all parties.
Khallaf noted that the two sides agreed to continue coordination and intensify consultations on regional developments to support efforts toward sustainable peace and stability in the region.
The EU High Representative praised Egypt’s constructive role in promoting regional security and stability, reaffirming that Egypt is a key partner of the European Union.
