Dr Osama Al-Azhari
Minister of Awqaf (Charitable Endowments)
Minister of Awqaf (Charitable Endowments) Dr Osama al-Azhari has extended his warm congratulations to the staff of The Egyptian Gazette on the occasion of the newspaper’s 146th anniversary, praising its rich legacy and pioneering status as one of the oldest and most influential English-language newspapers in Egypt and the region.
In exclusive remarks to the Gazette, al-Azhari underscored that journalism is a cornerstone of human awareness and a vital bridge between peoples. He stressed that responsible and credible journalism plays a key role in promoting sound religious awareness and correcting misconceptions, thereby fostering the values of understanding, coexistence, and mutual respect.
The minister further highlighted the role of enlightened media as an essential partner in showcasing Egypt’s pivotal position at both regional and international levels. He referred to the newspaper’s great contribution to highlighting Egypt’s soft power, its deep civilisational and historical heritage, and its comprehensive development drive across various sectors. These efforts, he said, reflect the image of a modern Egyptian state founded on construction, development, and stability, noting that building and development are integral Islamic values.
Al-Azhari also commended the Gazette’s professional standards and balanced coverage, which objectively reflect Egyptian realities and help convey Egypt’s voice to the world. He concluded by wishing the newspaper’s staff continued success and further achievements in serving the truth and advancing the mission of responsible, credible journalism.
